If you've thought about your future and the future of the world and come to the conclusion "This looks f*cked" then this show is for you. Running into the Sun combined a live band onstage, with beautiful contemporary dancing, multimedia and a solid storyline.
I was pleased to see this climate change focused performance consulted with a professor to ensure relevant and factual information. Weaving storyline with music and dance to overwhelm the audience into a love letter to activists everywhere. Great humorous lines were very relatable!
The choreography was dynamic and powerful, effectively conveying the chaos of our planet’s changing climate. Each movement reflected the urgency of the message, drawing the viewers into a visceral experience that mirrored the tumultuous changes we face in our environment. The performers moved with an intensity that resonated deeply, showcasing not only their artistic talent but also a profound understanding of the gravity of climate issues. A highlight was the stunning dance of “Mary” with a simultaneous projection of trees in the wind.
The incorporation of multimedia elements was well integrated to the storyline. Vivid visuals and poignant soundscapes enhanced the narrative, allowing us to visualize the consequences of inaction while simultaneously inspiring hope for a more sustainable future. The chaos onstage became a vivid representation of the chaos of climate change itself, reminding us that while the issues can seem overwhelming, they also serve as a catalyst for change and awareness.
I found the use of live band in such a small room overpowering, in particular the use of drums. Some dialogue was difficult to hear, however perhaps the creatives intended this to demonstrate the overwhelming feeling of issues in our society.
I would love the creatives to consider the space and audience of this venue as some interactions and dance were conducted floor level or lower, which meant the audience could not see. Overall, this show is a must-see for anyone wanting to understand the urgency of climate action through a unique and artistic lens. It not only entertains but also educates and empowers, leaving the audience with a renewed sense of responsibility toward our planet. Bravo to the entire cast and crew for delivering such a thought-provoking and impactful performance!
